ATHENS - Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Abdullah Gul signed on Tuesday Olympic Games Peace Declaration in Athens.
Gul signed the declaration following his meeting at Greek Foreign Ministry held on the fields two countries could make cooperation during Olympic Games.
Greek Culture Minister Evangelos Venizelos, Greek Public Order Minister Yeoryios Floridis and 2004 Olympic Games Organization Committee Director Gianna Angelopoulos also attended the meeting.
Gul said in the joint press conference held after the signing ceremony that Turkey, as the neighbor of Greece, had responsibilities for the success of Olympic Games.
Noting that they had the opportunity to discuss possible cooperation to be made in other activities especially in security issues, Gul said that certainly those activities would have an important effect on political, economic and tourism activities between the two countries.
Greek Foreign Minister George Papandreou said they thought that cooperation between Greece and Turkey would be an example to all countries in the world.
Recalling that the initiative for Olympic Games Peace Declaration was started during the term of former Turkish Foreign Minister Ismail Cem, Papandreou said that they were pleased with the contribution of Turkey.
