OTTAWA - Canada announced Monday that travelers would soon be able to bring small amounts of liquids, gels and aerosols onboard aircraft, easing restrictions similar to US rules imposed last month.
Starting Tuesday, passengers will be permitted to bring these articles in containers less than 90 milliliters or 90 grams (three ounces) through security screening at Canadian airports.
US authorities on Monday also eased a ban on liquids in airline passenger carry-on baggage, allowing small toiletries and drinks sold in departure lounges.
Restrictions were imposed on August 10 after British authorities foiled a plot to bomb several passenger aircraft en route from the United Kingdom to the United States using liquid explosives smuggled aboard in common containers.
"We now feel that some adjustments to the security measures put in place in August can be made," Transport Minister Lawrence Cannon said in a statement.
