KAYSERI - A Turkish construction firm, which won a tender in Afghanistan, started on Tuesday technical activities for clearing mines and betterment of Kabul-Dowshi highway.
Entes Industry Facilities Production and Assembly Corp. Business Development Director Hakan Unsal told A.A correspondent that they won the tender on recovery of Kabul-Dowshi highway which was 100 km. in length and connecting Kabul to Uzbekistan and Tajikistan and on clearing mines around the highway.
Unsal said that they started technical activities of mine clearing and highway betterment that was financed by World Bank.
Unsal said that they would speed up traffic course by repairing Kabul-Dowshi highway and they would clear all the mines near highway within 18 months. He added that World Bank started its activities for the first time in Afghanistan with this project worth of 30 million U.S. dollars.
Unsal said that the region was laid mines during Soviet occupation and Taliban period, adding that there were many mines made by Iran, China, Italy and Russia. He said that they would clear a region of 15 meters from mines with technical equipment.
