ANKARA - Parliament Speaker Bulent Arinc said on Sunday that they were following developments in Iraq with concern and stated that they wanted this chaos and turmoil to end as soon as possible.
Arinc met with reporters and replied to questions.
When reminded the statement of Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who said that soldiers could not be sent to Iraq if it was not wanted, Arinc said, ''it is true. We are following developments in Iraq with concern. We want this chaos and turmoil to end as soon as possible.''
Arinc said that the authority of the government aimed to take necessary measures and stated, ''we, as the parliament, always shared concerns of millions of people. If there is no need for our soldiers, it will be a pleasing development. If there is need for our soldiers, we wish that our soldiers will fulfil this mission in the best way and that neither our soldiers nor our country will be harmed. The statement of the Prime Minister on that issue is important and our people also share it.''
