ANKARA - State Institute of Statistics (SIS) said on Friday that tourism revenues of Turkey reached 7 billion 31 million 861 thousand 447 U.S. dollars in July-September of 2003.
SIS announced the results of the study ''arriving citizens and departing visitors'' survey in the third term of 2003.
According to the results of the survey, 4 billion 912 million 472 thousand 936 U.S. dollars of income was obtained from foreign visitors and 2 billion 119 million 388 thousand 512 U.S. dollars from citizens residing abroad who visited Turkey in the mentioned period.
Among 7 billion 31 million 861 thousand 447 U.S. dollars tourism income of Turkey, 5 billion 375 million 938 thousand 40 U.S. dollars was obtained from individual expenses and 1 billion 655 million 923 thousand 408 U.S. dollars was obtained from the package tour expenses.
In the third term of 2003, comparing to the previous year's same term, total expenses and expenses of foreign visitors increased 20.5 percent. Turkey had obtained 5 billion 835 million 570 thousand 206 U.S. dollars in the same period of the previous year.
According to the survey, Turkey obtained 10 billion 492 million 49 thousand 96 U.S. dollars of income from tourism in the first nine months of 2003 and 12 million 436 thousand 516 people visited Turkey in the mentioned period.
Ten million 356 thousand 765 of the visitors were foreigners while 2 million 79 thousand 751 of them were citizens residing abroad.
According to the survey of arriving citizens, 694 million 998 thousand 935 U.S. dollars of tourism expenses were calculated in the third term of 2003.
The amount of individual expenses was 667 million 410 thousand 785 U.S. dollars and the amount of package tour expenses was 27 million 588 thousand 150 U.S. dollars in the mentioned period.
