HAVANA - "There is no obstacle before economic & political relations between Turkey and Cuba," State Minister & Deputy Premier Abdullatif Sener told Turkish reporters during the 14th Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) Summit in Havana, Cuba in which Turkey attended as observer country.
Noting that Turkey was invited to NAM summit for the first time, Sener said that this shows the interest towards Turkey. He added that he held bilateral meetings to boost economic, political and social relations between the two countries.
Sener said, "UN Security Council will select two countries among Turkey, Iceland and Austria for non-permanent membership for 2009-2010. We pursue lobbying activities for Turkey. So far 120 countries have announced that they will support Turkey."
-RELATIONS WITH CUBA-
Noting that he held meetings with Cuban ministers, Sener said that they want to develop economic and political relations with Turkey.
Sener noted, "Cuban ministers are sorry that many products which are produced in Turkey are imported to Cuba through third countries. They noted that there are products in Cuba which Turkey can benefit as well."
