GAZIMAGUSA - TRNC President Rauf Denktas said on Friday that they wanted an agreement based on state and sovereignty, adding that they didn't want an agreement just on paper.
Addressing the oath-taking ceremony of soldiers at Gulseren barracks of TRNC Security Forces Command, Denktas said that they didn't forget the past and those who committed massacres in the past could do it today.
''For that reason, we want an agreement on the basis of state and sovereignty, we don't want an agreement on paper,'' Denktas said.
Denktas said that ''we tell EU that they can't admit Greek Cypriots by ignoring the rights of Turkey and Turkish Cypriots. Turkish Cypriots and Turkey say 'no' to that. But Americans and British try to deceive our people by telling lies.''
Denktas noted that ''Greek Cypriots and Greeks want to take Turkish Cypriots to 'slaughterhouse' where our rights, freedom and state will be slaughtered.''
Denktas said that the elections to be held in TRNC in December was one of the ways of rescuing the TRNC from slaughterhouse, adding ''we have our state, which was founded with honour.''
Denktas said that Greek officials described the Green Line as 'wall of shame' adding that ''this wall is wall of honour. This is the wall that says 'stop' to those who committed massacres. This wall is one of peace formed by Turkish soldiers. After this wall was formed, peace came to the island.''
TRNC President Denktas stressed that the wall would be lifted when there was real peace, adding that real peace would be formed when state, equality and sovereignty was accepted, when properties were exchanged and when Turkey's effective and active guarantee was accepted.
Denktas added that Turkish Cypriots should only join the EU with Turkey and after reaching an agreement on the island on the basis of state and sovereignty.
