Gul: Turkey Is A Different Example Within Islam World

KUALA LUMPUR - Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Abdullah Gul said on Wednesday that Islam communities experienced some difficulties in catching up with global developments in politics, economy, science and technology, stating that Turkey was a different example within Islam world.
Gul addressed a panel discussion in business forum held within OIC 10th Term Meetings.
Stating that he did not consider Islam and modernization as contradicting with each other, Gul said Turkey's experiences, Islamic values and culture played an important role, and at the same time constituted a good example showing that it is possible to develop the society in all fields.
Gul said Islamic values could contribute development of contemporary world, noting that Islam communities had difficulty in catching up with some global developments in politics, economy, science and technology.
Stressing that Islam communities could not catch up the highest standards in democracy, equality and social rights, Gul said nevertheless there was willingness to overcome the difficulties.
