ELAZIG - Ministry of Culture & Tourism experts have started an internal excavation work at the historical Harput castle.
``We are face to face with a 150 years-old frozen life. This frozen life will be awakening slowly thanks to this excavation,`` Prof. Dr. Veli Sevin, chief of the excavation team told the Anatolia News Agency.
``The excavation works will continue until the end of this month`` Sevin added. He indicated that they have found pieces of an Ottoman neighborhood dated from 1850, and they have succeeded to bring the details of it to the light. Sevin explained their objective as revealing the texture of the era and enliven Harput`s 150 years old past.
Harput castle is located at the southeast of the ancient city of Harput, dominating the Elazyg plain. In the past Romans, Byzantines and Arabs captured the castle.
