ANKARA - Foreign Ministry harshly condemned on Tuesday suicide attack on the Turkish Embassy in Baghdad.
A statement of the Foreign Ministry said, ''we harshly condemn this terrorist attack on our Embassy in Baghdad. We wish quick recovery to Iraqi policemen and our Embassy personnel who are injured in the attack.''
The statement noted that the preliminary reports indicated that the attacker died while two Iraqi policemen and one personnel of the embassy were injured.
''A suicide attack was staged on Turkey's Embassy in Baghdad this afternoon. According to the preliminary information received by the Ministry, one person who staged the suicide attack by a car full of explosives died, two Iraqi policemen and one employee of the Embassy were injured. Windows of the embassy building were shattered in the attack. None of the personnel of the embassy died in the attack,'' the statement said.
The statement pointed out that ''that attack on the Embassy was the continuation of terrorist attacks recently staged in Iraq.''
''All these attacks put forth seriousness of security problem in Iraq. Therefore, the necessity that all members of international community should behave in a harmony as soon as possible and contribute to overcoming of the security problem. It is obvious that it will be difficult to record progress in other fields if the security problem is not overcome,'' the statement said.
The statement emphasized that Turkey, as a neighbor of Iraq ready to undertake responsibilities and make self-sacrifice from the outset, had exerted all efforts to help that country with good will and a full transparency and would continue to exert such efforts determinedly.
