ISTANBUL - "We will ask them (the EU) to keep their promise, and insist that Turkey opens its ports when our ports are opened (to international trade)," Foreign Minister Serdar Denktas of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) said on Tuesday.
Before flying from Istanbul to Poland to participate in the "Krynica-Zdoj Economic Forum", Denktas told reporters, "opening of Turkey`s and our ports at the same time will help a lasting peace and settlement in Cyprus."
The Committee on Foreign Affairs of the European Parliament (EP) adopted the report on Turkey`s progress towards accession late on Monday. In this report, the EP reiterated its demand that Turkey should open its ports to Greek Cypriot ships.
Commenting on this report, Denktas said that there is no change in Turkey`s and TRNC`s position. "We will see (what will happen) if we stand firm on our feet. And, we will reach our target," he added.
