LISBON - European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso said Monday that the international "war against terrorism" is far from being won, on the fifth anniversary of the September 11 attacks on the United States.
"There is still much to do, the threat of terrorism is a challenge of a huge dimension. It is a challenge that demands a great mobilization of willpower in various areas," he told state-run Portuguese radio RDP.
"In the area of security but also in the area of understanding between different civilizations so that no room is given for crimes to be committed in the name of any religious group," the former Portuguese prime minister added.
"This requires a great will on the part of all and the truth is that we are still far from winning this war against terrorism," he said.
