ANKARA - Parliament Speaker Bulent Arinc said on Monday that there was need for a more modern parliament in Turkey, which was trying to adjust to the European Union (EU) standards.
Arinc held a press conference to announce reforms to be made in parliament as a part of EU adjustment works.
Turkey needed to change its law on parliament no 2919 in order to make the parliament more modern, Arinc stated.
Arinc noted that Secretariat General would be restructured to efficiently support the legislative and control process in parliament.
Stating that it was an obligation to close some units which were no more functional, Arinc said that speed, support of deputies to each other, getting rid of bureaucratic obstacles were issues they would give importance in their new arrangements.
Arinc pointed out that all stages of legislative and control processes would be carried to electronic environment systematically.
Parliament personnel management would be restructured within framework of modern approaches, Arinc said.
Arinc noted that number and qualities of personnel would be determined according to needs.
Technological infrastructure which would enable visual and vocal communication of deputies with voters on the internet would be laid, Arinc added.
