ISTANBUL - "Turkish troops are going to Lebanon as a peacekeeping force. We are not going to Lebanon to get involved in clashes," Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Saturday.
Talking to reporters after a seminar in Istanbul, Erdogan pointed out that Turkish troops in Lebanon will assist the distribution of humanitarian aid and protect such aid for the people of Lebanon.
Erdogan stressed that, aside from Turkish troops, officials from the Turkish Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources, Ministry of Health and Turkish Highways Directorate General will also go to Lebanon to help the Lebanese people.
PM Erdogan underlined that Turkish troops will go to Lebanon as all the conditions Turkey demanded have been met.
According to Erdogan, Turkish troops will certainly not get involved in disarming armed elements in Lebanon.
