GAZIMAGUSA - TRNC President Rauf Denktas said on Friday that states could also have unexpected quakes, adding that the measure of TRNC state was continuation of effective and active guarantee of Turkey.
''Civil Defense 2003 General Exercise'' against possibility of earthquakes was performed the same day in TRNC.
Speaking after the exercise, TRNC President Denktas said that Annan plan aimed to end the continuation of Turkey's guarantee on Cyprus.
Denktas said ''we rejected that plan. We will be cautious. We want agreement with our neighbours, but we will take measures as we know what the other side did and can do today. We don't want to live again the disaster we faced from 1963 to 1974. We don't want our people to migrate again and to be homeless.''
Denktas said that just like the measures taken against earthquakes, all countries took measures for their safety. Denktas said that they took these measures by accepting 1960 treaty and they would not make another agreement by giving up that agreement.
Denktas stressed that the sovereignty in Annan plan was sovereignty on paper, and that it would never be used. ''In time there won't be any soldiers left on the island, and everything that seemed to be given to us under EU norms will disappear if Annan plan is accepted,'' Denktas said.
TRNC President Denktas said that Greek Cypriots were not the government of Turkish Cypriots, adding that they wanted Greek Cypriots to show their friendship by lifting the embargoes.
Denktas said that Greek Cypriots had to accept that there were two peoples in Cyprus.
