ANTALYA - Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Abdullah Gul and Maltese Foreign Minister Joseph Borg signed on Friday an agreement on mutual encouragement of investments and memorandum of understanding on strengthening political consultations.
Gul and Borg met as a part of the Ministerial Meeting of the Mediterranean Forum (FOROMED).
Foreign Minister Gul told reporters that Malta was a very important country for Turkey and those two agreements were an opportunity to improve bilateral relations.
Gul said that Malta was ''like a door of Africa for Turkey'' and drew attention to historical relations between two countries.
Foreign Minister Gul thanked for support that Malta, which would become European Union (EU) full member on May 1, 2004, extended for Turkey's EU process.
Borg said that they aimed to improve relations with those two agreements.
Stating that Malta supported Turkey's EU process, Borg said that they were ready to make every cooperation for Turkey's full membership.
