CHARACTERISTIC OF TURKS WHICH I ADMIRE IS THEIR PATRIOTISM
British national team`s captain David Beckham was the guest of journalist Mehmet Ali Birand`s program named ``Manset`` on private CNN Turk channel. Beckham said that tension before the match between Turkey and Britain was being exaggerated because he had come to Turkey when he was playing in Manchester United and he enjoyed that trip. Beckham said that Turks were very pacifist people. Stating that there were many important players in Turkish team, Beckham said that Turkish team achieved the unbelievable in the World Cup. Noting that they were aware of success of Turkish team, Beckham said that they were impatient to play Saturday`s match.

INTERUNIVERSITY BOARD: ``NEW DRAFT WILL OUTWEAR EDUCATION``
Interuniversity Board harshly criticized presentation of draft law, which will facilitate entrance of graduates of imam hatip high schools giving theological education to universities, to the parliament. The board said, ``the draft will give a privilege to imam hatip high schools and turn the national education system into an outwear education. The draft will be withdrawn.``

BIG PUNISHMENT TO GOOD SCHOOLS
The draft law prepared to pave the way of imam hatip high schools which give theological education brings forth a very serious inequality in the university entrance exam. In accordance with the draft law submitted to the parliament, ``school average`` will not be taken into consideration in calculating the points of students in the exam while the average mark of the students in their diploma will be considered when calculating the university entrance exam points. That is, 4 points taken in a scientific high school which is the best school in Turkey will be considered equal to 4 points taken in a normal high school.

NIGHT LIKE NIGHTMARE
Two people died in Bursa province of the Marmara Region and western Izmir province due to storm and torrential rains which was influential in many parts of Turkey the previous night. Minarets of mosques demolished, many trees were uprooted.

MANEUVERS CANCELLED IN MEDITERRANEAN
Turkey and Greece announced yesterday that they were canceling scheduled military maneuvers in East Mediterranean in the spirit of the upcoming Olympics that Athens is hosting. The decision was taken during the meeting of Foreign Minister Abdullah Gul with Greek Foreign Minister George Papandreou in Antalya.

GENERAL STAFF`S TWO CONDITIONS
While the parliament adopted the motion that permitted sending Turkish soldiers to Iraq, General Staff put forward two conditions for negotiations with the U.S. to start. General Staff wants the region where the Turkish soldiers would be deployed in Iraq and the solution of the terrorist organization PKK/KADEK problem first before starting the negotiations.

RECTORS OPPOSE BILL ON IMAM-HATIP RELIGIOUS SCHOOLS
The council of universities which convened in Istanbul asked the government to withdraw the bill that gives advantages to students of imma-hatip schools in university exams. The council stressed that the existing regulation brought privileges to imam hatip schools and it would turn the national education system to an outdated one.

SLOGANS AGAINST TURKEY
While the parliament adopted the motion on sending soldiers to Iraq, the majority of the Iraqi people don`t want Turkish soldiers to come to Iraq. Thousands of Shi`ites walked to the U.S. headquarters in Baghdad the other day, protested the U.S. and shouted slogans against Turkey, too.

PRIME MINISTER ERDOGAN: ``SECURITY SHOULD BE ENSURED``
Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said, ``Turkish soldiers will not take any steps in Iraq unless security is ensured.`` Erdogan said that Turkish soldiers would go to Iraq to ensure tranquility of Iraqi people not as a police or gendarme force. Erdogan said, ``the General Staff continues talks. No step will be taken unless security is ensured.``

EXCITING WAITING
As the national football team continues preparations for its match with Britain to be played on Saturday, British team announced that Ferdinand and Owen would not come to Istanbul since they were injured. Turkish Football Federation warned supporters before the match: ``Any ugly incident to happen during the match may have serious results which will be difficult to be erased from the history and which we never deserve.``

TURKIYE (RIGHT)

ERDOGAN WARNS IRAQI PEOPLE WHO DON`T WANT TURKISH SOLDIERS
Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan harshly reacted against the threats coming from Iraq that they did not want Turkish soldiers, and that they would be attacked if they come. Erdogan said, ``Turkish soldiers did not go to Iraq as a police force or a gendarme force,`` stating that, ``we will be there for happiness and peace of Iraqi people.
Warning the Iraqi administrators who said they were against Turkish soldiers, Erdogan said, ``in case there is any negative approach toward Turkish soldiers, it is impossible for us to accept this.``
Erdogan said Turkey would install infrastructure including water and electricity.

FRIENDSHIP STRENGTHENS WITH TRADE
Turkey started to take positive steps for improvement of relations with Pakistan, who did not leave Turkey alone on its most difficult days.
State Minister Kursad Tuzmen, currently in Pakistan to participate in II Turkish Exports Fair, pointed out that Turkey targeted strengthening of friendship bridge with Pakistan through trade.

EGYPTIAN FM:``WE ALSO THINK OF HELPING IRAQ LIKE TURKEY``
Egyptian Foreign Minister Ahmet Maher said that they respected the decision of Turkey to send soldiers to Iraq. Maher, who came to Antalya province to attend the Ministerial meeting the Mediterranean Forum (FOROMED), said that they also wanted to help Iraqi people just like Turkey.
