LEFKOSA - TRNC President Rauf Denktas held a reception on Thursday in the honour of Turkish Cypriot Peace Forces Commander Gen. Isýk Kosaner and other commanders who recently started their mission in TRNC.
Addressing the reception, TRNC President Rauf Denktas welcomed the commanders and said that ''we always want to be with our motherland, and we want the protection of Turkish soldiers.''
''The investments you make as soldiers vitalize our economy,'' said Denktas.
Noting that no solution could be found on the island as Greek Cypriots didn't give up their intention, Denktas said that an agreement should be based on the realities, it should not be an agreement on paper. Denktas stressed that the reality on the island was the existence two peoples, two democracies, two states and effective guarantee of Turkey.
''As long as the world regards Greek Cypriots as the legitimate government, Greek Cypriots don't want to found a new partnership with us. They still do the same thing. Besides EU give EU membership to Greek Cypriots as a present,'' Denktas said. Denktas stressed that EU was making a historic discrimination. Noting that the EU called one side in Cyprus as the minority, while it called the other side as the 'government,' Denktas said ''I hope Turkish Cypriot people will show its will during the elections,'' he said.
TRNC President Denktas underlined the fact that December elections would show that TRNC was not a puppet state of Turkey, but a state which was rescued by Turkey from genocide by international agreements.
General Isýk Kosaner said in his part that the command would continue to protect Turkish existence and independence in Cyprus.
