LISBON - An earthquake measuring 3.2 on the Richter scale shook Portugal's southernmost province of Algarve, one of Europe's top holiday spots, on Tuesday, the national meteorology institute said.
There were no reports of damage or casualties from the quake, which was felt most strongly in Quarteira, a former fishing town which is now home to rows of holiday apartment towers, some 300 kilometres (185 miles) south of Lisbon, it said in a statement.
The earthquake, centred in the Atlantic Ocean some 25 kilometres southwest of Faro, the capital of the Algarve, was registered at 4:28 pm (1528 GMT), the institute said.
