ANKARA - Turkish troops, planned to be sent to Lebanon, will stay in this country for at least one year, Justice Minister Cemil Cicek said.
Speaking to reporters, Cicek noted, ''the mission can be extended if necessary.''
According to Cicek, Turkey has sent troops abroad for 29 times in its history.
''There are Turkish troops in four separate regions in the world today. So, this is not the first time,'' he stated.
Cicek indicated that developments in Lebanon and Cyprus problem will be debated during UN Secretary General Kofi Annan's visit to Turkey (due on September 6th), adding that the extraordinary parliamentary session in which the motion on dispatch of troops will be debated has nothing to do with Annan's working trip.
