ANKARA - French National Assembly Foreign Affairs Commission Deputy Chairman Renaud Donnedieu de Vabres said on Wednesday that they had an understanding attitude about the manner of Turkey about Iraq.
Vabres visited Parliamentary Commission Chairman Mehmet Dulger and met him for nearly one hour.
Dispatch of soldiers to Iraq and relations with the European Union (EU) were discussed.
Speaking about the adoption of Prime Ministry Motion on dispatch of soldiers to Iraq, and attitude of Turkey on Iraq, French Parliamentarian Vabres said they understood Turkey's attitude on Iraq. Vabres said care should be shown and that it should be explained well to Iraqis why Turkey would go there.
Dulger in his part said none of the government motions so far determined a specific period, and recalled that this time permission was given to government for one year. He said this was a message both to Americans and Iraqis that Turkey was going there for something specific.
When Vabres said whether or not Turkey was looking for legitimacy, Dulger said text of the motion included this, stating that U.N., with a decision adopted in May, had called for support from all countries for restoration of security and stability in Iraq.
Dulger said NATO National Defense Ministers meeting would take place in the United States, noting that, ''the thing that will be issued from this meeting will be a source of legitimacy for us. We have not sent soldiers yet, we only authorized the government.''
Dulger said the decision taken by the Parliament would not create something negative in relations with the EU, stating that mutual relations should further improve.
