TEHRAN - The Iranian foreign ministry spokesman expressed late Sunday his nation's regret and sadness following the crash of a regional jet in the US state of Kentucky that killed 49 people.
"Iran expresses its regret and sadness," said Hamid Reza Assefi, before presenting the condolences "of the Iranian people and the government of the Islamic republic to the victims' families."
A plane flown by regional US airline Comair was bound for Atlanta, Georgia, with 47 passengers and three crew members when it crashed early Sunday shortly after takeoff from Lexington, Kentucky.
Forty-nine people were killed and the lone survivor was hospitalized.
