ISTANBUL - The fire which started in Burgazada, an island of Istanbul four hours ago still continues.
The intense smoke caused by the fire negatively affects the health of people living on the island.
While efforts continue to extinguish the fire both from the air and land, citizens also try to protect their houses from fire by spraying water with hoses. Some citizens who went sick due to the smoke and panic were transferred to the hospital on Heybeliada, another close island.
Meanwhile Istanbul Forestry regional director Faruk Cebi said that the fire was partially taken under control, adding ''but the wind still continues.''
Mayor of Istanbul Islands (Princess Islands) Coskun Ozden said in his part that the fire started in several places at the same time, adding they would investigate that. Ozden noted that the driver of a phaeton (a horse-drawn carriage) had heart attack and died and 5-6 houses burnt in the fire.
