ISTANBUL - National Education Minister Huseyin Celik, who attended the 32nd General Assembly of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), returned to Turkey on Sunday.
Holding a press conference at Istanbul's Ataturk Airport, Celik said that he had delivered a speech on science, culture, communication and education during the conference.
Noting that he had also talked about the developments occurred in Iraq, Celik said, ''I talked about material and spiritual contributions which Turkey wants to make in order to preserve cultural heritage in Iraq.''
Celik said that an important development happened in this year's conference and recalled that the United States had joined UNESCO which it had left earlier.
Noting that he had a bilateral meeting with UNESCO Director General Matsuura, Celik said that he had also met with education, information and higher education ministers of many countries.
Celik said that he had attended round table meeting on increasing the quality of education held within the conference. He added that three issues which Turkey had brought onto agenda took place in the final statement of the conference.
Celik said that he had met with teachers whom Turkey had sent to France. He added that they had discussed the problems of teachers.
