ISTANBUL - Turkish Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Abdullah Gul has met the European Union (EU) Rotating President Finnish Foreign Minister Erkki Tuomioja in Istanbul today.
Gul and Tuomioja meeting lasted about two hours and was closed to press corps.
Spokesman of the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs Namik Tan made comments on the Gul-Tuomioja meeting.
''The Finnish FM Erkki Tuomioja made a request to visit Turkey. Tuomioja visited Jordan and Egypt prior to coming to Turkey. Gul And Tuomioja discussed various matters, predominantly those related to the EU. We have serious cooperation with Finland. We have high confidence in Finland. We believe that, during Finland's presidency in the EU, the process for Turkey will be successful,'' said Tan.
According to Tan, the topic of Lebanon was discussed extensively today between Gul and Tuomioja.
Tan stressed that Turkey thanked Finland for declaring PKK as a terrorist organization.
