-TURKISH DOCTORS DUE TO JAPAN FOR TRAINING
IZMIR - The technique that enables surgeons to perform kidney transplants without seeking blood-type compatibility can be applied also in Turkey after Japan.
In an exclusive interview with the A.A on Thursday, Dr. Serdar Kacar from the Kent Hospital Organ Transplants Department said, ''a technique developed in Japan has eliminated the necessity of blood-type compatibility in kidney transplants. A five-member group will pay a visit to Japan over the coming days for training. Later, we will be able to apply the technique in our hospital.''
''In the meantime, our hospital uses other techniques. The Akdeniz University Organ Transplants Center and our hospital are the first centers performing organ transplants without tissue compatibility. This technique yields more successful results than the technique of organ transplants from cadaver,'' he added.
There are about 40 thousand people in Turkey queuing for kidney. Every year, about 7 thousand patients with renal failure are added to this number.
