ANKARA - Trial of the suspects of the armed attack on the Council of State will begin at the High Criminal Court in Ankara tomorrow.
Suspects Alparslan Arslan, Suleyman Esen, Osman Yildirim, Ismail Sagir, Tekin Irsi, Erhan Timuroglu, Aykut Metin Sukre, Salih Kurter and Ayhan Parlak are accused of being involved in the armed attack on the Council of State in Ankara on May 17th, 2006 and the bomb attacks on the Cumhuriyet daily headquarters in Istanbul on August 11th, 2006.
Earlier, prosecutor Semsettin Ozcan, in his indictment, sought life imprisonment for suspect Arslan and four other suspects for attempting to destroy the constitutional order by using force and for committing intentional murder.
Mustafa Yucel Ozbilgin, a member of the Council of State Second Chamber, was killed and four other members of the chamber were wounded in the armed attack, staged by suspect Arslan on May 17th, 2006.
