ANKARA - The Perseid meteor shower, one of the four spectacular meteor showers that can be seen from Earth, will also light up the sky of Ankara on the evening of August 12th.
Ankara University Observatory executives told the A.A correspondent: ``It`s a great moment when a meteor hits the atmosphere and starts to burn and descend with the elegance of a white swan for a few seconds.``
There will be several activities due to ``Perseid meteor shower`` at Ankara University Observatory facilities in Ahlatlibel on August 11th and 12th.
The Perseid meteor shower, a northern hemisphere sky show, is one of the four biggest meteor showers of the Milky Way galaxy. It appears every year in late July and stretches into August.
Perseid meteors fly out of the constellation Perseus. Astronomers say that the source of the shower is the Swift-Tuttle Comet, which takes a stroll around the Sun every 130 years.
