ROME - Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Abdullah Gul and Italian Foreign Minister Franco Frattini discussed Iraq issue in their meeting on Wednesday.
Turkey and Italy have consensus on the issue that Iraq issue should be reached a solution with a resolution which will be taken by the United Nations.
Gul and Frattini held a joint press conference.
Frattini said that Italy agreed with Turkey that Iraq issue should be solved by the resolution of the United Nations and international society should exert efforts to determine the future of Iraq.
Gul said, ''we discussed also Iraq issue in our meeting. It was very beneficial.''
Frattini said that a solution under the leadership of the United Nations would increase the chance of success of the conference in Madrid which would be held by countries that would extend financial aid to Iraq on reconstruction of this country and added that Italy was exerting great efforts for this conference.
Frattini added that a solution to Iraq issue under the leadership of the United Nations would ease efforts for reconstruction of Iraq.
