Cicek: Many Articles Of Constitution Do Not Comply With E.U. Standards

ANKARA - Justice Minister Cemil Cicek said on Wednesday that many articles of the Constitution did not comply with EU standards and parliamentarian system and stated that at least 20 articles of the Constitution should be amended.
Cicek attended a reception held on the occasion of opening of New Legislative Year.
Upon a question on constitutional amendment, Cicek said, ''constitutional amendment is not the issue of the government, the parliament deals with the issue. I think that there is need for a constitutional amendment.''
Cicek said that if there was need for effective, productive and transparent public management, at least three or four articles of the Constitution should be amended and stated, ''there is an EU process which is functioning. We made arrangements which did not require constitutional amendment so far. But many articles of the Constitution do not comply with EU standards.''
Cicek stated that at least 20 articles of the Constitution should be amended and added that apart from the unchangeable articles of the Constitution, all articles should be reviewed as a whole.
