Robin Williams Enters Alcohol Rehab After Two Decades of Sobriety

Actor and comedian Robin Williams has entered an alcohol rehabilitation program, his publicist confirmed in August 2006. Williams, 55, had maintained sobriety for 20 years before relapsing.

Publicist Mara Buxbaum said Williams chose the step for the benefit of himself and his family, adding that he planned to resume work that fall to promote upcoming film projects.

Williams built his career across television and film, earning a best supporting actor Oscar for "Good Will Hunting" (1998) and earning wide recognition through "Dead Poets Society," "Good Morning, Vietnam," and the sitcom "Mork and Mindy." He and producer Marsha Garces, married since 1989, have two children together.
