Scowcroft: Turkish Defense Industry Makes Important Progress Within Offset Programs

ANKARA - American-Turkish Council (ATC) Chairman Brent Scowcroft said on Tuesday that Turkish defense industry made an important progress especially within offset programs.
Scowcroft told A.A correspondent that Turkey had a very developed defense industry with its infrastructure and technology. He said that Turkey had the capacity to produce many developed defense industry products by itself.
Noting that Turkey could transfer a certain amount of source to defense industry sector in spite of budget pressure, Scowcroft said that defense industry relations between the two countries were good.
Emphasizing that Turkey's sending soldiers to Iraq was very important for the United States, Scowcroft said that Turkish soldiers would have contribution to restore stability in Iraq.
Scowcroft, who retired from American Air Forces, was national security advisor of U.S. Presidents George W. Bush and Ford and military advisor of President Nixon.
