JERUSALEM - More than 140 rockets were fired at Israel from south Lebanon Tuesday, slightly injuring four people, police said, as residents continued to flee to safer southern areas.
On Monday, more than 160 rockets had been fired at the Jewish state by Hezbollah fighters in Lebanon, lightly injuring five people.
Hezbollah has fired more than 3,000 rockets at Israel since the start of the Lebanon conflict on July 12, killing 36 civilians and wounding hundreds.
Hundreds more residents of the town of Kiryat Shmona close to the border of Lebanon prepared to be evacuated to Netanya near Tel Aviv.
A first party of about 100, including many children, left Tuesday evening in three private buses, according to an AFP reporter at the scene. Some 400 more were preparing to follow.
Of the town's 24,000 residents about 15,000 have already fled to the south and most of the remaining 9,000 also want to leave, Mayor Haim Barvivai said.
