ANKARA - State Minister Ali Babacan said on Monday that one of their most important goals was to decrease public debt stock and stated that to this end, they would continue to follow a tight financial policy.
Delivering a speech at a luncheon of Turkish-American Business Council at Ankara's Sheraton Hotel, Babacan said that public debt stock would be decreased more by the end of 2003.
Babacan noted that 6.5 percent primary surplus target was at the level that could be reached by the end of 2003 and stated that according to January-August figures, 20 percent inflation rate target could be reached easily.
He said that there was increase in exports and imports and stated that the country's exports increased by 31 percent and imports also rose by 34 percent.
Stating that Turkish companies were ready to work together with the U.S. companies in reconstruction activities in Iraq, Babacan added that potential alliance in Iraq issue between private companies of the two countries would be under mutual interests.
