ERDOGAN: NO AMNESTY PLAN FOR PKK
Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan made important statements after he returned from Kuala Lumpur. ''Preparations to bring amnesty to PKK is not in our agenda. We also don't have such plans,'' Erdogan indicated.
Erdogan also said, ''we want change the age of election and bring it down to 25. We will also bring Turkey deputyship. Deputyship of anyone who resigns from the party should be stripped off.''

THY JOINS STAR ALLIANCE
18 big companies are members of the Star Alliance. Turkish Airlines decided to join the Star Alliance. Thus, the passengers will be able to fly to 842 points of the Star Alliance in 152 countries, besides the 103 flight points of the THY, with one ticket and reservation.

PARTIAL OBJECTION TO ANTI-TERRORISM LAW
President Ahmet Necdet Sezer made an appeal to Constitutional Court for annulment of articles restricting freedom of press in Anti-Terrorism Law.

HANDCUFFS FROM U.S. SERGEANT TO TURKISH SQUADRON LEADER
On September 17th, 2005, a U.S. sergeant and soldiers stopped the car of Turkish pilot squadron leader Ferih Dincer and his wife Meltem Dincer, who left a bar at Incirlik Base, and laid them on the ground and handcuffed them. Dincer later resigned from his post in Turkish Armed Forces. Dincer currently works in a private airlines company.
When asked about the incident, Ferih Dincer said, ''yes, everything is true.''

TEMPERATURES WILL BE 38 DEGREES CELSIUS IN ISTANBUL
The high temperatures will effect the whole Turkey. Temperatures across the country will be 6-8 degrees higher than their normal averages. In Istanbul, temperatures will be 35-38 degrees today and 34-36 degrees on Sunday. Rain is expected in Istanbul on Monday and Tuesday.

ERDOGAN: WE MAY LOWER ELECTION THRESHOLD
Prime Minister Erdogan has given signals for possible changes in electoral law. He said, ''as soon as we open the Council, we will bring up election issue and discuss possible changes in electoral law. We will negotiate with other parties. We will definitely change the age of election and bring it down to 25. If we agree with other parties we may even bring down the ratios.''

MESUT YILMAZ AGREES WITH MUMCU TO RETURN TO ANVATAN
Mesut Yilmaz, who earlier stated that he would return to politics, relayed important messages in Black Sea city of Rize. Yilmaz said, ''I have talked to Erkan Mumcu (the leader of the Motherland Party (ANAVATAN). We have agreed on almost everything. I don't have any intentions for the leadership. I have decided do all my best for the party.''

SEZER ASKS FOR ANNULMENT OF SOME ARTICLES OF ANTI-TERRORISM LAW
President Ahmet Necdet Sezer made an appeal to the Constitutional Court asking for the annulment of the 5th and 6th articles of the Law amending the Anti-Terrorism Law, actually in force.
The 5th article (of the amended law), which Sezer wanted to be annulled, makes an addition to the 4th paragraph of the Article 6th of Anti-Terrorism Law no:3713. According to Art.5, if press or media hint that terrorist organizations would commit a crime against certain people (with/without clearly revealing name); reveal the name of public officials (who take part in fight against terrorism) or point to them as target; owners and editors of the media organizations will be penalized (even if they were not involved in the crime).
BLASTS IN ADANA
Two blasts occurred in southern city of Adana on Friday. The blasts occurred with 20 minutes of interval. The first one took place outside a bank on a busy street while the second happened some 30 meters away at a construction site. The blasts have injured 17 people including 8 policemen and two police academy students.

NEW COMMANDERS
As the meetings of Supreme Military Council (YAS) ends, summit of the Turkish Armed Forces (TSK) changed. Gen. Yasar Buyukanit will assume the post of Chief of General Staff till 2008.
Gen. Isik Kosaner was appointed as Gendarmerie Forces Commander. Gen. Ilker Basbug became the Land Forces Commander.
Meanwhile, it was reported that 17 military staff were expelled from the Turkish Armed Forces because of their undisciplined conducts.

THREE HOTELS RESERVED FOR KING ABDULLAH
King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia will visit Turkey on August 7th together with his entourage by 17 planes. Three hotels were reserved for the delegation comprising of nearly 300 people.
NEW COMMANDERS OF TSK
The names of the commanders of the Turkish Armed Forces (TSK) were announced after the decisions made by the Supreme Military Council (YAS). The newly appointed commanders will assume their posts as of August 30th, 2006.
TSK's commanders are: Chief of General Staff: Gen. Yasar Buyukanit, Land Forces Commander: Gen. Ilker Basbug, Naval Forces Commander: Admiral Yener Karahanoglu, Air Forces Commander: Gen. Faruk Comert, Gendarmerie Forces Commander: Gen. Isik Kosaner.

ERDOGAN: ELECTION THRESHOLD CAN BE LOWERED
Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said they worked on a new political reform package and thus for the first time gave a green light to lower the 10 percent election threshold. Erdogan said, ''we will discuss this issue with all the parties.''

YILMAZ AGREES MUMCU, WILL RETURN TO POLITICS
Mesut Yilmaz, a former prime minister, will return to politics again. Yilmaz said he talked to Erkan Mumcu (leader of ANAP) for 5 hours, noting that, ''we have agreed on almost everything. I will also talk to others. I will be in an effort to establish an alternative till the elections.''

GROUNDBREAKING CEREMONY OF ILISU DAM TO BE HELD TODAY
Groundbreaking ceremony for the Ilisu Dam & Hydroelectric Plant on Dicle River will be held today.
When the construction of the dam is completed, it will be the second biggest dam of Turkey as far as the capacity of its lake. Also Ilisu Hydroelectric Plant will be Turkey's 4th biggest one after Ataturk, Keban and Karakaya.
The construction of the dam is planned to be completed in 2013. It will be built on Dicle River and will be situated in southeastern city of Sirnak.
Ilisu is 45 kilometers far from Turkey's Syria border. The dam will have a reservoir capable of storing 11 billion cu.m. of water when completed.
