PASSED 25 PERCENT THRESHOLD WITH 10 MONTHS
It was learned that U.S. businessman Ahmet Ertegun who bought TGRT channel together with Press King Murdoch has returned to Turkish citizenship 10 months before the purchase. According to RTUK law, foreigners cannot own more than 25 percent of a Turkish television company. Murdoch overcame this obstacle by giving share to Ertegun. Ertegun left Turkish citizenship with his own will in 1967. But he became Turkish citizen again on August 31st, 2005.

KICK-OFF LEAGUE IN ANKARA
81 days of longing in soccer ends today. Opening match of 2006-2007 season in soccer will be played between Galatasaray and Ankaraspor at 9.00 p.m. tonight.

GUL CRITICIZES USA WITH HIS ARTICLE IN WASHINGTON POST
Turkish Foreign Minister & Deputy Prime Minister Abdullah Gul in his article published in Washington Post newspaper stated that, ''the grave tragedy that has been unfolding before our eyes in Lebanon, and the inability of the international community to bring it to an end after three weeks of suffering, unfortunately raise questions about the United States and its proud legacy of leadership for freedom and justice.''
He stated, ''today live images of the carnage and destruction are broadcast directly into our households. Each time a bomb wreaks havoc on the streets of Beirut, it hits the consciences of people everywhere. Throughout the world, the same question is being asked: Why has the sole superpower, which alone has the capability to stop this tragedy, turned a blind eye to the images of human suffering and a deaf ear to the cries for mercy?''

HOW DID MERINOS BECOME ASHES?
The historic 70-year old Merinos Cloth Factory had been the biggest factory of the Balkans and the Middle East. A fire broke out in the factory on July 31st, 2006. Those who wanted to get rid of the factory could not devastate it but burned it.
The cloth factory in Bursa, which is one of the most important institutions of Ataturk's initiatives to become industrialized, became a thing of the past after the fire that broke out three days ago. 7 depots of the factory burned in the fire.

HANDCUFFS TO TURKISH SQUADRON LEADER AT INCIRLIK
U.S. soldiers laid on the ground Turkish pilot squadron leader Ferih Dincer and his wife, who left a bar at Incirlik Base, and handcuffed them. When the incident was kept secret, pilot Dincer resigned. The incident happened in September last year. Car of pilot Dincer and his wife nurse Meltem Dincer were stopped by a U.S. sergeant while they were returning to their home from a bar at the base. The sergeant wanted Dincer to get out of the car claiming that he is drunk. When Dincer said, ''I'm a Turkish military officer, you cannot force me to get out of the car,'' 5 more U.S. soldiers came with their dogs. U.S. soldiers got Dincer out of the car by force, laid him and his wife on the ground and handcuffed them. Also a Turkish soldier who witnessed the incident was harassed. When 6 Turkish soldiers came, handcuffs were taken out. The U.S. soldier was sent to his country. Dincer was sent to Ankara. When the incidents were tried to be kept secret, Dincer left the army and started to work in a private airline company.

GENDARMERY SURPRISE AT YAS
Supreme Military Council's (YAS) yesterday meeting was completed. The decisions which will be submitted to approval of President Ahmet Necdet Sezer today were surprising. Deputy Chief of General Staff Gen. Isik Kosaner who was expected to pursue his mission for one more year was appointed as Gendarmery Commander.

SHADOW OF ''MOVING'' ON INDEPENDENCE
Turkish State Minister Ali Babacan's statement that, ''we have decided to move Central Bank to Istanbul,'' brought the bank and the government against each other. Central Bank Governor Durmus Yilmaz first said, ''we have not decided for it,'' however, later made a second statement with the suggestions of Babacan.
In the second statement that was made in the evening, Yilmaz said, ''the issue of moving entails a change in the law. Central Bank Assembly did not make a decision on it. However, its decision can only be a proposal to the government.''
Yilmaz also said, ''moving of Central Bank to Istanbul will contribute to the region's becoming a finance center.''

INFLATION IS HIGH AGAIN
The expected drop in rate of inflation has not been realized. ''Consumer prices (TUFE) rose by 0.85 percent while producer prices (UFE) rose by 0.86 percent in July 2006,'' said the Turkish Board of Statistics (TUIK).
According to TUIK, annual inflation in TUFE in July 2006 was 11.69 percent and in UFE was 14.34 percent.

ANKARA WAITS
After Turkey's launching a cross border operation was dropped from the agenda following the pressures from the United States, it was revealed that the government referred fight against PKK to Iraqi Kurdish groups. As Ankara waits more concrete steps to be taken, only offices of the PKK were closed down so far. This was evaluated as a ''trick aiming at hoodwink''.

ELECTRICITY CRISIS WAITS AT DOOR
The views that there would be an energy crisis in 2007 increase. As the producers close down their power plants one after the other, Minister of Energy Hilmi Guler said, ''share of them in production is only 2.5 percent.''

ERDOGAN: GLOBAL FIRE IS WAITING FOR US
Leaders, during extraordinary meeting of Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC), warned western world as ''if attack on Lebanon does not stop, angry people will become radicalized.'' OIC wanted UN to call on urgent cease-fire. Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said, ''this war is not fair and legitimate. It is not a prophecy to say that a global fire is waiting for us.''

Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said, ''messages about Gen. Yasar Buyukanit were sent to my cellular phone too. Their aim was to cause uneasiness.'' He added, ''there were people who had different expectations about this issue. However, thanks to determination of our government, we have upset many tricks.''

DOUBLE WARNING FROM TURKEY FOR MIDDLE EAST CRISIS
A call has been made for a cease-fire in Lebanon in the extraordinary meeting of the Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC) in Malaysia.
Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who took the floor at the opening of the meeting, pointed out that Islam countries have the ''historic responsibility'' on Lebanon and Palestine.
''Those who are not touched today should not think that they are untouchable,'' Erdogan said regarding Israeli attacks on Lebanon and Palestine.

CENTRAL BANK TO BE MOVED TO ISTANBUL
Government started initiatives to make Istanbul the center of finance. Management Center of the Central Bank, and directorate generals of Ziraat Bankasi and Halkbank would also be moved to Istanbul. State Minister Ali Babacan said ''we have intention to move the headquarters of Turkish Banking Regulation & Supervision Agency (BDDK) and Capital Market Council (SPK) to Istanbul as they are directly related to finance.''
