ANKARA - Members of the Supreme Military Council, under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan, visited this morning the mausoleum of Mustafa Kemal Ataturk to bow before the founder of modern Turkey.
They laid a wreath of red and white carnations to Ataturk`s tomb, and observed a minute of silence.
Later, Prime Minister Erdogan signed the special book of the mausoleum. He wrote: ``the Turkish Armed Forces, the most important guarantor of our Republic and democracy, maintains its outstanding modernization capacity and adapts itself to the changing conditions in the world in the light of Ataturk`s principles.``
During its four-day annual meeting, the Supreme Military Council will make decisions on promotion and retirement of military personnel.
The council`s annual meeting will end on August 4th.
