BREKK GIVES POSITIVE MESSAGES BEFORE 6TH REVIEW
International Monetary Fund (IMF) Turkey Representative Odd Per Brekk gave positive messages prior to talks on 6th Review that will start today.
Brekk said Turkey economy was on the right track, and stated that economic program worked well.
Brekk also said statements of Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan were encouraging.

GUL: ''WE WILL NOT APPLY PARLIAMENT IF WE MEET OPPOSITION''
Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Abdullah Gul said they would not apply the Parliament in case they realize that they could not get authorization from the Parliament on Iraq.
Stating that Parliament has the right to take final decision on Iraq, Gul said they would not even discuss the issue in the parliament in case they see any opposition.

FOREIGN TRADE DEFICIT RISES TO 11 BILLION U.S. DOLLARS
As decrease in inflation and positive atmosphere in economy continue, foreign trade deficit rose to 2.1 billion U.S. dollars with a 40.2 percent increase.

POWELL: ''WE EXPECT TURKEY TO COME WITH A DIVISION''
U.S. State Secretary Colin Powell, who spoke to Business Week magazine, stated that they expected Turkish Army to come with a division in case Turkey decides to send soldiers.
Powell said that Turkish army had a very strong infantry force.

SIX CONDITIONS TO SIXTH REVIEW
Delegation, led by IMF Turkey Desk Chief Reza Moghadam, will come to Turkey today for sixth Review.
IMF Turkey Representative Odd Per Brekk, who made a written statement, pointed out that the delegation would focus on 2003 budget practices and that at the same time structural reforms would be discussed.

RUSSIA PROPOSES 12 PERCENT DECREASE IN BLUE STREAM
Eni-Gazprom was reported to propose state-run oil pipeline company (BOTAS) 12 percent decrease in price of Blue Stream gas.

GOLDEN GIRLS' SUCCESS IN VOLLEYBALL
Turkey guaranteed to be among in the first four countries in the European women's volleyball championship in Ankara. Turkey defeated on Wednesday Slovakia 3-0 in straight sets in the volleyball championship in Ankara. Turkey beat Slovakia 25-20, 25-20, 25-14 in three sets. Turkish national volleyball team will have a match this evening with Germany which beat Russia 3-0.

GOVERNMENT PLANNING TO HOLD A SECRET SESSION FOR MOTION
The government which thinks of overcoming problem on dispatch of soldiers to Iraq with a motion will demand a secret session to debate the motion in the parliament. Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Abdullah Gul, who is currently in New York, said that the parliament would take the final decision and added, ''the parliament takes decision and the government puts it into practice.''

MODERATE EARTHQUAKE SHAKES SIVAS
Moderate earthquake shook central Anatolian Sivas province on Wednesday.
Bogazici University Kandilli Observatory and Seismology Institute said the earthquake, measuring 4.8 on the Richter scale, occurred at 11.13 local time. The epicenter of the earthquake was Divrigi Township of Sivas province.

American mathematician John Nash whom we know from the movie, ''A Beautiful Mind'' came to Istanbul on Wednesday. The movie was about incredible life story of John Nash. Famous mathematician Nash said that he had wanted to see Istanbul since his childhood and stated that he would visit historical places of Istanbul.

FOREIGN TV CHANNELS SHOW GREAT INTEREST IN CAPPADOCIA
A total of 26 state-owned and private TV channels from 13 countries are waiting for permission to shoot documentary films about Cappadocia region in central Nevsehir province. Seven TV channels from Japan, four from Britain and TV channels from Italy, France, the United States, Germany, Georgia, Slovakia, Russia, Hungary, South Korea and Yugoslavia applied to the Culture and Tourism Ministry for permission since the new year.

TARGET IS EU MEMBERSHIP
State Minister Ali Babacan, who spoke at International Monetary Fund (IMF) governors meeting, spoke about Turkey's full membership to the European Union (IMF).
Babacan said, ''our target is to have a productive, fruitful, and stable economy based on market mechanism. Turkey goes through a very dynamic reform process on the way to be a full member of the EU. Our parliament passed six adjustment packages. With the final package, all steps necessary to meet political criteria of the EU are completed. With the implementation of reforms in question, Turkey will be able to start full membership negotiations in a short time like 2005.''

ERDOGAN: MOTION CAN BE FINALIZED IN OCTOBER
Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said there was no timetable for the authorization motion that would be sent to the Parliament. Erdogan said, ''because we have different agenda items. We can take this after opening of Parliament. We will be in an effort to reach a result in October.''

Turkey guaranteed semifinal in the European women's volleyball championship in Ankara. Turkey defeated on Wednesday Slovakia 3-0 in straight sets in the volleyball championship in Ankara and it guaranteed semifinal for the first time in its history. Turkey beat Slovakia 25-20, 25-20, 25-14 in three sets. Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan and State Minister Mehmet Ali Sahin who watched the match congratulated players on their success.
