Denktas Further Destruction Of Maras Should Be Prevented

LEFKOSA - President Rauf Denktas of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) said on Wednesday that the foundations also had property in Maras, stating that their rights should be protected.
Denktas said they tried to convey this to the United Nations Security Council.
Replying a question about statement of TRNC Foreign and Defense Minister Tahsin Ertugruloglu that Maras would be opened before elections in December, Denktas said U.N. had taken several decisions on ''coming of owners of buildings'' without knowing status of buildings in Maras and that they were constructed on lands of foundations.
Denktas said, ''we have invited Greek Cypriots many times as the owner of properties but they did not come,'' stating that they told Greek Cypriots to come on condition that rights of foundations are protected, but that they were rejected.
Denktas said, ''those should be explained to U.N. Security Council,'' and noted that, ''we don't oppose your decision, but this decision had harmed the township so far. However, an action should be taken to prevent further destruction, and to protect rights of owners of properties, including the foundations.
