DUBAI - State Minister Ali Babacan started on Saturday the annual meetings of International Monetary Fund (IMF)-World Bank in Dubai with a busy agenda.
Babacan met with Brazilian Finance Minister Antonio Palocci. Two ministers exchanged views in their meeting.
State Minister Babacan will meet with World Bank Vice President Shigeo Katsu, European Union Commissioner for monetary and economic affairs Pedro Solbes, World Bank Executive Director Kurt Bayer and IMF Managing Director Horst Koehler later in the day.
Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan will also attend meeting between Babacan and Koehler.
Babacan will have meetings with Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) Secretary General Donald Johnston, World Bank President James Wolfensohn, International Finance Corporation (IFC) President Peter Woicke and Citigroup vice president and former IMF deputy managing director Stanley Fischer on Sunday.
State Minister Babacan will also meet with U.S. Secretary of Treasury John Snow.
On Monday, Babacan will meet with Dutch Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Geritt Zalm, Moldovan Finance Minister Zinaida Greciani, Japanese Deputy Finance Minister Zembei Mizguchi, and Finnish Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Antti Kalliomaki.
State Minister Babacan will hold meetings with IMF Managing Director Horst Koehler, IMF European I Department Director Michael Deppler, IMF Fiscal Affairs Department Director Teressa Ter-Minassian on Tuesday.
Babacan will also meet with high-level officials of investment banks on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, Babacan will take up 8.5 billion U.S. dollars in loans planned to be given by the United States to Turkey in his meeting with Snow.
In case consensus is reached in the meeting, the signing ceremony on the loan can be held on Monday or Tuesday.
Besides Erdogan and Babacan, State Minister Kursad Tuzmen, Finance Minister Kemal Unakitan, Banking Regulation and Supervision Agency Chairman Engin Akcakoca, Central Bank Governor Sureyya Serdengecti, State Planning Organization Undersecretary Ahmet Tiktik, and Treasury Undersecretary Ibrahim Canakci are attending the meetings in Dubai.
