ANKARA - Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Friday that meetings of the Institute of International Finance would bring together developed countries with developing countries and also international investors with the countries that wanted to draw those investments, adding that they hoped to evaluate those opportunities in the best way.
Erdogan held a press conference at Ankara's Esenboga Airport prior to his departure for Abu Dhabi.
Noting that the meeting of the Institute of International Finance would be held within the scope of annual meetings of International Monetary Fund (IMF)-World Bank, Erdogan said that the meeting would bring together the high-ranking officials of international finance institutions.
Erdogan said that he was especially asked for making the opening remark of this year's meeting and added, ''this invitation is particularly important in the aspect of recent jump in economy. It is also the sign of an interest and importance that is attributed to Turkey.''
Noting that they would have the chance to explain approaches of Turkey to representatives and administrators of international finance and investment institutions in the meeting, Erdogan said, ''we will give necessary information to foreign investors regarding encouragement of investments, our laws and arrangements which were adopted the last legislative term and also the ones that will be adopted this term.''
Erdogan said that he would represent Turkey in the meeting of the Institute of International Finance and added that State Minister Ali Babacan and Finance Minister Kemal Unakitan would represent Turkey in the meetings of IMF and World Bank. He said that State Minister Kursad Tuzmen would hold various meetings regarding foreign trade.
Noting that bilateral meetings with the administrators of international institutions were very important, Erdogan said that he would hold bilateral meetings with IMF Managing Director Horst Koehler, Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) Secretary General Donald Johnston and administrators of some international finance institutions.
Erdogan said, ''these meetings are very important chances for explaining views and approaches of our country on the first hand to these institutions which have big effects on world economy.''
Erdogan said that besides the contacts with international economy world, the meetings with United Arab Emirates, officials of Dubai and local administrators would cause different steps to be taken towards Turkey.
Noting that they would also meet with Turkish businessmen and investors in Dubai, Erdogan said that other officials in the delegation would hold meetings with their counterparts on different levels, besides other meetings.
Erdogan said, ''this meeting will bring together developed countries with developing countries and also international investors with the countries that want to draw those investments. It presents unique opportunities within multilateral dialogue. We hope that we will evaluate these opportunities in the best way.''
