BERLIN - German Interior Ministry said on Friday that Metin Kaplan, the leader of the Union of Islamic Communities and Societies (ICCB) could not be sent to another country other than Turkey.
Speaking to A.A correspondent, German Interior Ministry Spokesman Daniel Holtgen said that ''the news saying that we are trying to send Kaplan to another country other than Turkey is a lie.''
Noting that they wanted to extradite Kaplan to Turkey, Holtgen said that German Interior Minister Otto Schily had a positive meeting with Interior Minister Abdulkadir Aksu in Turkey. Aksu gave assurance to Schily saying that Kaplan would be tried according to the rules of the legal state, Holtgen said, adding that Justice Minister also gave assurances to investigate the claims saying that Kaplan was earlier tortured while giving testimony.
