BODRUM - Finance Minister Kemal Unakitan said on Friday that the government first targeted to join the EU and bring economic figures to the level of EU standards.
Unakitan delivered a speech at the foreign investors meeting which brought together Turkish and foreign investors in Bodrum town of southwestern province of Mugla.
Stating that people should act with common sense in foreign policy relations, he said that the country's interests should be first taken into consideration.
Concerning the motion crisis with the United States during Iraq war, Unakitan said that the United States needed again Turkey in Iraq.
Stating that Turkey was the most appropriate country which would take mission in reconstruction of Iraq, Unakitan said that Turkey had sufficient infrastructure on the issue.
Unakitan said, ''we will have a very important role in reconstruction of Iraq.''
He said that the government first targeted to join the EU and bring economic figures to the level of EU standards and stated that they were taking measures to attract foreign investors to the country.
