ANKARA - Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Abdullah Gul said on Thursday that the issue of dispatch of soldiers to Iraq would be assessed in detail in the meeting of National Security Council (NSC) on Friday.
When asked whether or not U.N. resolution on dispatch of soldiers to Iraq was a precondition for Turkey, Gul said that Turkey attributed importance to the U.N. resolution and noted that but this issue would be assessed in detail in the NSC meeting on Friday. Gul added that to this end, Turkey could see its future.
Asked whether a definite recommendatory decision would come out from NSC, Gul said that assessment process continued.
Stating that they gave priority to national interests of Turkey, Gul said that if there was a new U.N. resolution, it would be beneficial.
Gul added that the government would take the final decision.
