TEHRAN - Turkish-Iranian Joint Business Council on Tuesday held a briefing for Iranian businessmen to inform them about economic meetings and activities between the two countries.
Turkey's Ambassador in Tehran Selahattin Alpar held a news conference and said Turkey and Turkey took important steps to improve economic relations.
Stating that trade volume between the two countries was around 1.3 billion U.S. dollars, however that this figure was below the potential of the two countries, Alpar said trade volume was targeted as three or five billion U.S. dollars during the Turkish-Iranian Joint Economic Commission meeting held in April.
Alpar said the two countries had facilities to make border trade, stating that talks continued on preferential trade system.
Alpar said, ''there is cooperation opportunities not only in trade but also in industry. The two countries may cooperate on textile in industry, automotive, food, processed food, banking, iron and steel and agriculture.''
Alpar said Turkey and Iran could make cooperation also in tourism, noting that cooperation protocol signed between travel agencies of the two countries would be beneficial for next year.
Alpar said State Minister and Turkish-Iranian Joint Economic Commission Co-Chairman Kursad Tuzmen would visit Iran between October 1 and 2, noting that a delegation comprised of businessmen would accompany Tuzmen during the visit.
