ANKARA - Turkish State Minister and Deputy PM Abdullatif Sener has said the government is not working on a value added tax (VAT) cut.
Sener told a news conference on Thursday that, ``at the moment we have no plan on VAT cuts for any sector or area. There could be statements from our ministers regarding their own sectors and these are decisions and assessments which will be looked at in the next budget period.``
Turkish Tourism Minister Atilla Koc had promised a 10 percent tax cut (from 18 to 8 percent) on accommodation, to help tourism industry which has faced a decline in foreign visitor numbers after bird flu cases seen in Turkey.
Asked about the primary surplus, Sener said primary surplus in 2006 would be at least 6.5 percent.
On another question, Sener said that there is not any revision in economic targets and the government will continue to implement the economic program without any deviation.
