HONOR KILLING CIRCULAR FROM ERDOGAN
PM Recep Tayyip Erdogan released a circular regarding measures to be taken to prevent honor killings and violence against women and children. In the circular published in the Official Gazette, Erdogan said, ``harmful traditions regarding this issue should be changed by some training and education programs.``
A PARADISE VANISHED
150 hectares of forest burnt down to ashes in a fire that broke out in (Aegean town of) Ayvalik the previous day and spread due to strong winds. People who were spending their holiday there panicked due to the fire. The fire could hardly be contained as it approached summer houses.

MISSILE & EGG CASES JOINED
A case was filed after a Tomahawk missile belonging to the U.S. army fell in Dagyani village of southeastern city of Sanliurfa in 2003. U.S. soldiers who visited the site for investigation, sued 12 villages who threw eggs at them. Now, the court tells the villagers: ``Reach a compromise with the USA. And, they compensate your losses.`` However, the villagers who do not want to reach a compromise say, ``we have used our democratic rights.``
BURNT DOWN TO ASHES
The fire which broke out in (Aegean town of) Ayvalik the previous day and spread under heavy winds burnt 150 hectares of forest down to ashes.
MARKETS REVIVED
The consumer prices were below expectations in June. This erased the negative impact of the rise in producer prices. Selling price of 1 USD fell to 1.5470 new Turkish liras (YTL), while Euro dropped below 2 YTL.

20-PAGE ALEWITE IN RELIGION COURSE BOOKS
As forced participation of Alewite children in religious courses was brought up to the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR), the Turkish National Education Ministry decided to tell about Alewite in 20 pages of the religion course books this year.

26 SPECULATORS UNDER DETENTION
26 speculators including a former football player and a person who was banned from the stock exchange by the Capital Market Board (SPK) for 37 times, were detained yesterday. The speculators are accused of manipulating and swindling small investors.
DIRECTOR ACCUSED OF POWER CUTS
PM Recep Tayyip Erdogan asked Energy & Natural Resources Minister Hilmi Guler why electricity was cut in 13 cities on Saturday. As Guler said that Turkish Electricity Transmission Corp. (TEIAS) was responsible for the power cuts, TEIAS Director General Ilhami Ozsahin, who is on annual leave, was dismissed.

SECOND-HAND DIPLOMACY
PM Recep Tayyip Erdogan`s passion of ``mediation`` causes trouble for Turkey. Foreign policy observers criticized Erdogan as he sent his adviser Davutoglu, the architect of visit of Meshal to Ankara, instead of a diplomat to Damascus to carry out diplomatic initiatives for release of the Israeli soldier. Diplomats think that Turkey should carry out a more careful diplomacy with a country which may be among the possible future targets of the USA. If this initiative does not bear fruit, Turkey will have problems in its policy towards Israeli-Palestinian dispute.
AKP`S SURRENDER DOCUMENT
Turkish FM Abdullah Gul went to the USA with a heavy agenda. Gul said that U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and he will make public the Common Vision Document after their meeting. Preparation of this document started after Rice`s visit to Turkey. On the other hand, Republican People`s Party (CHP) leader Deniz Baykal expressed his concerns over this document. ``It scares me because the government would promote it as if it was a document in Turkey`s favor. I have concerns that it may be the document of AKP`s surrender,`` he said.

SEYTAN SOFRASI IN FLAMES
Fire which spread due to heavy winds in (Aegean town of) Ayvalik burnt touristic ``Seytan Sofrasi`` (The Devil`s Table) site down to ashes. People living in Ayvalik say, ``we can heal this wound``.
STUDENTS ARE GUILTY
Students joined a gathering of the Justice & Development Party (AKP) in Adiyaman with flags of the party. Responding to questions of Mustafa Gazalci, a parliamentarian from the Republican People`s Party (CHP), National Education Minister Huseyin Celik said, ``nobody led those students. They joined the meeting to see the prime minister. An investigation has been launched regarding those students.``

TURKEY PAVES WAY FOR INVESTORS
The regulation, prepared after PM Recep Tayyip Erdogan`s instructions, has been put into effect. The ``Investment and Support Promotion Agency``, set up after Erdogan`s remarks: ``we will lift the hurdles before foreign investors``, will end all bureaucratic obstacles.
MESSAGE FROM ANKARA TO AL-ASAD
PM Recep Tayyip Erdogan sent his foreign policy chief adviser Prof. Dr. Davutoglu to Syria to relay a message to Syrian leader Bashar al-Asad. His message was: ``Your influence on Palestine is obvious. Use it in a positive way.``

OIL PRICES UP AGAIN
Oil prices have risen above 3 new Turkish liras (1,93 USD), and thus reached the highest level in Turkey`s history. A 55-liter tank will be filled in return for 169 YTL (109 USD) from now on. People want the government to reduce taxes which cause this rise.
CLAIMS THAT WE ARE TRYING TO TOPPLE GVT ARE NONSENSE
U.S. administration gave important messages before Foreign Minister Abdullah Gul`s meeting with U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice. In an exclusive interview with Zaman, U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for European & Eurasian Affairs Dan Fried said that they can work with Turkey as real partners, and praised Turkey`s democracy. Qualifying the claims that the USA is trying to topple the AKP government as ``nonsense``, Fried said, ``we are happy to work with the governments elected by the democratic system in Turkey. We are cooperating with the AKP.``

The last victim of Semdinli incidents is the Van chief prosecutor Kemal Kacan. The Justice Ministry proposed the Supreme Board of Judges and Prosecutors (HSYK) to dismiss Kacan from duties.

``Unconditional cooperation against terrorism`` and ``institutional dialogue mechanism`` are the highlights of the Strategic Vision Document between Turkey and the USA. High-level committees will be set up among public institutions, private sectors and NGOs.
