ISTANBUL - Worldwide famous music producer Arif Mardin was laid to rest in Istanbul on Wednesday.
A number of people including his sister Betul Mardin, his wife Latife Mardin and his children Julie and Joe Mardin and Nazan Joffre were paid their last tribute to him during the funeral.
Grammy Award-winning producer Mardin died in New York on June 25th at the age of 74. He had been suffering from pancreatic cancer for a long time.
Mardin came to the United States in 1958 after Dizzy Gillespie and Quincy Jones convinced him to make music his career. He attended the Berklee College of Music in Boston and graduated in 1961.
He started working at Atlantic Records in 1963, subsequently became a producer and arranger, and ultimately a senior vice president.
Mardin worked with many artists, including The Young Rascals, Dusty Springfield, Hall and Oates, Bette Midler, the Bee Gees, Roberta Flack, Barbra Streisand, Aretha Franklin, Chaka Khan and Norah Jones.
He won numerous Grammy Awards, including producer of the year in 1975 and 2002.
