Aksit Represents Turkey In Conference On Women In Decision Making Mechanism In Italy

SIRACUSA - State Minister Aksit represented on Saturday Turkey in the conference in Siracusa, Italy on ''women in decision making mechanism.''
Aksit explained reforms which aimed to remove problems of women in Turkey and recent legal arrangements in the conference.
Ministers discussed problems and role of women in decision making mechanism in political and economic fields with representatives of NGOs in a meeting.
Following this meeting, ministers came together and wanted the number of women to be increased in parliaments.
Aksit told the A.A correspondent that Turkey was more advanced than many EU candidate countries especially on certain aspects.
Noting that the number of women in the parliament was also low in Turkey, Aksit said that however Turkey was on a better point than many other countries when the percent of working women in private and service sectors was taken into consideration.
Aksit said that her European colleagues were very interested in new legal arrangements the government made recently to provide women with equal opportunity.
Stating that Equal Opportunity Minister Stefania Prestigiacomo of Italy which hosted the conference welcomed her very friendly, Aksit said that Italy always showed that it supported Turkey in its membership process to the EU.
