ANKARA - United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Political Affairs Ibrahim Gambari arrived in Ankara on Sunday.
Ankara is the first leg of Gambari's tour of Turkey-Cyprus-Greece to assess the political situation in Cyprus and to evaluate the prospects for a resumption of political talks aimed at reaching a comprehensive settlement.
Gambari has undertaken the mission within the framework of the Secretary-General Kofi Annan's good offices mission.
He is scheduled to meet Turkish Foreign Minister & Deputy Prime Minister Abdullah Gul on Monday.
Gambari will also meet President Mehmet Ali Talat of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) and Greek Cypriot leader Tassos Papadopoulos during his stay in Cyprus between July 6th and 9th.
He will then return to New York to brief the Secretary-General Annan on the results of his mission.
